…and His face was turned toward the sun

Jesus had lost his hands (I don’t know what happened), but at least he could face into the sun and watch the dying of the day.

information

I’ve just gotten back from a week of photography in New Mexico and El Paso.

I went primarily for a photo workshop at White Sands National Park; the night before it started, I went out to a nearby cemetery to re-learn how to use a camera that’s not my everyday one. A couple of local cemeteries seemed like good locations for my self-guided lessons.

Anyway, I sure did like the lower-case r that was hanging out with a whole line of upper-case ones.

do not vote

I am not a signage expert, but it seems like if you’ve got a message that’s important enough to stick on a sign, you’d want the whole message to be visible. This sign went on for a few more lines, but they were obscured by the wall of the adjacent building.

But anyway, at least you can get a sense of a few of the people someone doesn’t want you voting for.

christmas

In case you don’t know this: in New Mexican restaurants, you’ll get the choice to have your food topped with either red or green chile. And if you’re bold enough to want both, it’s called “Christmas.” And that’s what I was thinking about when I spotted this scene and made this photo. (On a side note: if you want to use the west-facing aluminum window frame to brace your arm while you make some images, you may need to seek medical treatment for burns to your skin. FYI.)

I had been to Alamogordo before, but never with a camera in my hand. And that meant I had also never strayed even one inch off the highway through town.

This time, though…
