On a recent photo prowl through downtown Canyon, Texas, this grid of gridded windows caught my attention.

And also, I can’t decide if the door’s short or the doorknob’s too high. Either way, it looks…odd.

Maybe you know how it is – how that plain metal building and that basketball goal are so plain, so every-day, that you hardly notice them. Until that one day, when the sun’s right and the photographer’s mood is, too, and it is suddenly something that’s almost otherworldly.

That’s what happened here.

Mirror Maze

I am not sure what the Mirror Maze could offer inside that’s any better than what you can see on the outside – weathered brick, arches over the windows, a fire escape.

At the barricade

Earlier this spring, I rented a camera for a week, and used it as often as I could – I wanted to get my money’s worth!

That’s why I was walking around the civic center on a Saturday morning, where I found two out-of-work barricades and a trash can.
