Pattern, repeated

Sometimes when I see buildings with elements that I don’t quite understand, I’ll say, “I guess it looked better on paper.” And that’s what I said to myself when I first saw that decorative (?) thing on the front of the building. But then, I noticed the industrial architecture behind it and could see certain patterns repeated in both things. So maybe the architect designed the decorative thing as an homage to the industrial thing.

Quite a few opportunities

If you happen to be in Nashville and find yourself in a church-going mood, I’d like to suggest this place, as it has many opportunities available all through the week.

Ray of Hope: for sale

This is a true story: I saw this church building (which is for sale) within the first hour I was in Nashville, but didn’t stop to photograph it. And the reason I saw it is that we’d just eaten lunch at a taco place around the corner. The tacos were good.

And so the next day, we decided to go back to the taco place, which actually violates a Major Rule of travel – do not repeat-eat at restaurants. That’s how good the place was.

And, because we went back, I was able to get a photo of these windows after all.

Like many things in life, I owe this to tacos.

other side, in advance

The pyramid dominates the Memphis skyline, if you’re in the right part of town to see it. It’s a Very Big Deal to visit the thing, which houses a Bass Pro Shop and a hotel as well as a restaurant and viewing platforms up at the top. The mashup of an over-the-top outdoor store and the Big Cyprus Lodge INSIDE A DAMN PYRAMID made me a little dizzy. So I just photographed an empty parking lot on a side street and called it good.

OKC Mornings

Well, this is something different!

Mornings from my hotel room were filled with the view across the street, and I couldn’t resist making photos. And then, I couldn’t resist making them into a triptych.

Also, starting this week, this image and a few others will be available for purchase at Broadway Contemporary Fine Art Gallery in Lubbock. I am extremely proud that gallery owner (and artist) Janelle Barrington-Spivey has included my work with the other local and regional artists she represents. If you’re in Lubbock, stop on by and tell Janelle I said hello.
