i think her head is on backwards
I found a treasure the other day, on the corner of 5th Street and Harrison Avenue, in Lorenzo, Texas. There’d been some sort of retail operation there (A thrift store, maybe? It was already out of business on the 2023 Google Street View.) but the building had been lately torn down. Across the back of the lot were piles of bricks and ceiling tile and boxes and inventory. I spent some good time exploring.
This mannequin seemed creepy enough at the time to warrant a photo, but it got weirder after I got home and edited the picture – that’s when I noticed that her head had spun around until it was completely backwards on her shoulders.

Nights in Cuba were a little disconcerting. The blackouts could (and did) happen all over the place, for random amounts of time. And then there’d be the one place (like you can see here) that was literally the only bright spot on the entire block. It’s just the way of things.

curb snack
It was mid-afternoon on the first day of three days of celebrating Sant’Agata, the town’s patron. Thousands of people were out, following the procession as a way of marking their devotion. But sometime during the day, they were going to need a snack, just like this little head-to-toe pink little girl.
Bonus fact: you know those plants that are called “broom”? And see that broom there in the background? Guess what it’s made from. Yep: broom plants.

morning light
I am fortunate that my real job gives me travel opportunities and I try to always use these work trips to grab a few photos.
I saw this scene one morning in New Orleans, only about three blocks from where I worked when I was in grad school. In those days, way up on the fourth floor of an office building, we had a daily view of construction of one span of the bridge you can see here. I’d never seen it from this angle before, and how nice of the sunlight to land right there on that little piece of wall…sometimes NOLA will hand you a gift.
