walk v. ride
I haven’t been out making new photos lately – other stuff has taken priority, etc. But luckily I have a gigantic archive of photos that I never got around to editing.
So, anyway, today kicks off a little series that I’ll call When I Went To Boston.
The way the part-of-a-person seems to be striding so confidently past the row of bikes makes me laugh and you probably know by now that if a photo makes me laugh, I’m gonna eventually post it…

The thing is that sometimes I can almost talk myself into thinking I can shoot from the passenger side of the car.
And the other thing is that is almost never the best solution*. For example, there’s no way to see this particular angle of the Dust Bowl unless you’re standing on the sidewalk.

*One exception: the meth-y parts of Albuquerque are not at all pedestrian-friendly.

I didn’t actually even own an umbrella until I was 19 years old and was moving from Lubbock to a wetter locale for college. And then I went someplace even wetter for grad school, where I know for sure I kept umbrellas in my car all the time. But then I came back to Lubbock and probably don’t quite recall how to open an umbrella. And when I went to Scotland last year, I didn’t even take an umbrella with me. I’m not a total idiot – I had a waterproof coat with a hood and anyway how can you hold an umbrella AND use a camera?
