descansa en paz

For about ten years, I would stop at every roadside memorial that I saw (traffic and other conditions permitting). Then one day, it seemed like I was finished with that and ready to move on.

But still, every now and then, I’ll see a memorial that calls to me, as this one did along a lonely stretch of a remote road.

four crosses

I’ve been busy lately printing images for a show* and haven’t had time to get out and make new images.

So, here’s one from a few years ago, when I took a little weekend roadtrip and found this church.

*My collaborator VC Torneden and I have a show opening next month in Tulsa. Our original concept was 66 images each, but a few things happened along the way to getting it all printed and now it’s up to 111 images each. So, yeah – that’s what I’ve been doing.

as it was left, so shall it remain

Inside an abandoned farmhouse, light bounced around until it landed on the wood-paneled wall, four jackets, and one orange hat.

caddy

This sewing caddy captured my heart during an exploration of my friend’s grandmother’s house. The caddy  had been there for a while – notice those wooden spools of thread – and my thoughts went to the sewing habits of a woman I’d never met. It was more poignant than I had anticipated.

We looked around the entire house and then, just before we left, both of us needed just one more look at the sewing things.

This wasn’t my mom’s sewing room. But it could have been. Visiting this room gave me the chance to think about my mom, which is always a lovely thing for me to take time to do.

(And also, that pattern piece is for a nightgown. I looked it up. Also you cants spell too much from those Boggle pieces, which somehow escaped from the rest of the game.)
