A day made for fishing

The way the grandpa’s head is tilted, like he’s trying to both see and hear the little boy, hits me in a way that I cannot explain.

Parking is Available

By now, you are all aware of my strong affection for parking garages, aren’t you? Empty ones, in particular. And empty ones at night? Photographer’s heaven!

Tracery

The main entrance to Winchester Cathedral, mid-morning.

Later in the trip, when we stood in a long line to get inside Notre Dame, I appreciated this even more….

East Beach Café (for Andy)

I’ve written about this before, about the friends I’ve made through my blog. When I started I didn’t have the faintest idea that was even a possibility, but several years in, I can count many of you as friends.

When I knew I was going to be in England, I contacted Andy Hooker, one of the photographers I’ve gotten to know through our blogs, and asked him for some recommendations of out-of-the-way places I’d be likely to miss. He remembered that I’d been very interested in some posts he’d made about the East Beach Café, in Littlehampton; he has a good memory, as those photos are from 2014! (Here’s what the place looks like, through his lens.) Thanks to his reminder, I was able to plan a stop at the café the first day we were in the country.

But even better than that was the chance to arrange a short visit with Andy and his lovely wife Charlotte. Their home was literally our first stop after we arrived, and it was so nice to be able to meet them.

And this is the kind of man Andy is: he’d written out the directions to the East Beach Café, and gave me a handful of change to pay the parking.

So, here’s to blogs, and photographers, and travel.

And this is the last of my photos from England and France; tomorrow it’ll be back to Texas.
