This

060713

Another shot from Sudan, just a couple of blocks from the yard sale sign. Kind of a mystery, I think, about what “This” refers to, but I like it.

This entire block of buildings had once been busy; I saw evidence of a beauty shop, a video store, the Eastern Star place, some offices, and so on. But now: nothing was still in business and the roofs were caved in.

Good for photography; bad for the town.

It’s that kind of town

Yes, it is that kind of town.

The kind of town where you can put your church’s yard sale sign on a box in the middle of the main drag on a Saturday. And where people see “FBC” on the sign and automatically know that’s the Baptist church.

Rose. Dog.

Should you ever find yourself in Clovis, New Mexico, and in need of both dog training AND a headstone, this place makes it awfully convenient.

And, if you time it just right, while the dog’s getting groomed and the headstone’s getting carved, you could take a short drive up the street and around one corner to Twin Cronnies, a drive-in place that’s been there since 1952; it still has carhops, who deliver your order on those metal trays that hang from your car window.

A few more rectangles

060413

Here’s one for my friend Ehpem, who noticed my tendency to shoot rectangles even before I’d figured it out. I guess you can tell which one of us was paying attention. (Hint: it wasn’t me.)

The cemetery chair

060313

I’ve been to this cemetery a few times, and always find something interesting like star trails just before moonrise, or a cemetery angel, or concrete cross.

But my favorite thing I’ve seen there is this chair, backed up against a stone tower and angled to get a view of a rocky gravesite.
