#1 Meal
“#1 Meal Load Out” sounds like it might be some sort of express line at McDonald’s. This shot was taken at Pyco Industries, a cottonseed oil mill, and it turns out that cottonseed meal is a by-product of cottonseed oil processing. It’s used as a nutritional ingredient* in cattle feed, so I guess there IS a connection with McDonald’s, after all.
Oh, and those clouds? In the past four years or so that I’ve been relatively serious about photography, this part of Texas has been in a drought. So, in spite of all my practice with taking pictures of all kinds of things, I never have learned how to photograph clouds: there haven’t been enough of them around to practice on. (Thanks – I feel better having gotten that off my chest.)

* I know – it doesn’t sound that nutritional to me, either. But that’s what Pyco says on their website.

I liked this airport; it was tiny but there were quite a few interesting things to look at.
But however interesting it was, it didn’t obscure the fact that I was leaving Paradise. Literally – the name of the resort was Paradise.

It may not be an actual oasis
Oasis:
1. A fertile spot in a desert where water is found.
2. A pleasant or peaceful area or period in the midst of a difficult, troubled, or hectic place or situation.
Oasis Motel:
Neither of those things.
Google it, and you’ll see what I mean.
Or, why don’t I save you the trouble: “oasis motel las vegas deaths” just pops right up. And from there, you can find this fairly lurid piece about the place. You can read the entire article if you want, but I can tell you that the very best part is the 4th paragraph from the end – the one that starts with this sentence: “Dead bodies at the Oasis are not something that happens once every hundred years,” says lifetime Las Vegas resident and full time prostitute Michelle “Micki” Ramiriz.
And it just gets better from there. If you want to click over and read it now, I’ll wait….
So. How about that?
Bad news, though, if you wanted to stay there, as it appears the City of Las Vegas has shut the place down for code violations and “unabated prostitution”. But it’s still listed on Trip Advisor, where it got a 5-star review from someone who seems to have misunderstood the rating system.

Trailer? Where?
Check this out: an abandoned trailer lined up on the horizon. And that post in front of it that’s lined up on the trailer’s door? Perfect!
I’m not trying to get all mushy and stuff, but when I see things like this, I know I am supposed to have a camera in my hand. I know I am supposed to be ever-watchful. I know I will average about 40 mph on road trips because I stop so often. And I know that, even as often as I’ve stopped, it still hasn’t been enough.

But it doesn’t really matter, after all
Another commercial casualty in a town that’s got plenty of them. This was a place called Chinese Restaurant, so at least they had clarity of title working in their favor.
But it’s out of business, so that informative title doesn’t matter. And neither does the stern warning of NO FREE DELIVER.
