which way the wind will blow

If you are from someplace where the wind fails to blow nearly every single damn day, you may not understand why people from the Plains will immediately get that this shot was made in an always-windy locale.

alley wagon (also hippies)

Of course you already know, probably, that I will always walk down an alley if walking down an alley is an option. That’s where the most interesting things are.

Anyway, I enjoyed finding this Radio Flyer wagon and a wonky basketball goal lined up this way. And then later, I also enjoyed noticing that the tiny sign above the door notes it as the “hippies and explorers entrance.” I understand the peace sign as a graphic for hippies, so I assume the coffee (or tea) cup is for all the explorers out there.

(And while I technically was an explorer that morning – and could by some metrics also be considered a hippie – I failed to utilize that entrance. A missed opportunity, for sure.)

three random words

I mean, the locals know what this sign refers to. And so do I.

But it is more amusing to think about it as just three random words, doubly stated, along a highway. (Yes: I AM easily amused.)

fish steps

Where I live, fish is sold from glassed-in cases in the grocery store. It smells really fishy when you walk by, and if I am being honest, I generally hold my breath.

At the market in Boston, one of the places you can get fish is from this below-street-level spot, where carefully-arranged fish are in an open-air display that uses the concrete steps to hold everything up.

It looks interesting. And it’s not even smelly.

red is a color that fades easily

Those curtains tell the story of how the color red fades a lot faster than other colors.

(If you want to know the science – it’s something to do with red objects reflecting red light, but at the same time absorbing short-wavelength light) – you can read this explanation. But otherwise you can look at this photo and know it’s the truth.)
