mail delivery

When I stood in the middle of a road to get this shot, I knew I’d be submitting it to the big annual High + Dry show here in Lubbock.

I did submit it. And I didn’t get in. (I only mention it in case you were planning a trip to Lubbock to see it in person.)

mailbox

It looks like someone needs to check on their mail. It doesn’t necessarily look important – I didn’t look through it or even touch it or even open the mailbox – but still: what if their notification about receiving a Pulitzer is in there?

above ground

As it happened, the day I made this image I was making a mad dash across western Oklahoma in order to get to Oklahoma City before a storm  (that included tornadoes) got there.

I made it…and was very glad that I did.

used cars in the rain

When you live in a dry climate, like I do, getting to make photos that include rain is a nice treat. And it was a bonus treat that traffic signals and the traffic itself lined up so I could get this shot from the dry interior of the car.

car/fence
