If you’ve only ever been to the Blue Hole in the afternoon, you might be surprised at how peaceful it is first thing in the morning, before the swimmers and scuba divers and cliff jumpers all show up.

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, some people slowly ease their way into this cold water. And some of them opt for the quick-entry method.

Me? Oh, I chose to stay dry.

This place is spring-fed and the water’s at a constant temperature of 62° – many people choose to ease their way in, stopping for a few minutes on the ledge until they reckon they won’t actually freeze if they get all the way wet.

the stillness of the day

By mid-morning, the place was full of swimmers and scuba divers, which is why I went early – it’s the only time all day to see mirror-smooth water.
