angel, three twigs, and an ant
Here’s a cemetery angel with what appears to be three twigs growing out of her face. There’s a huge ant crawling up her arm but it was the whole chin-twig situation that caused me to make the photo.
And also why do you suppose that angel wings are always depicted in sort of a partially-open pose, like a bird that’s just landed and hasn’t had time to fold away its wings? (Oh, yes: that is actually a thing I wasted some time thinking about. It’s stuff like this that clutters up my mind and distracts me from thinking about things that are important and/or have actual answers.)

desert forest
I’ve been to Valentine several times. I generally avoid going out to see Prada Marfa while I’m there because all possible photos of the place have already been taken.
This gives me time to look around the actual town and that’s how I found a cemetery over there on the south side. Evidently it doesn’t have a name, either on the entrance gate or on Google maps, but it was worth the stop. Plus I didn’t have to wait around for my turn to take pictures (like you do at the famous place) because everyone there but me was dead.

traces
The traces of a now-gone crucifix were visible on this metal cross. I liked that.
The cemetery was right up against an on-ramp to the interstate and there was a constant flow of traffic – a lot of people were headed toward Albuquerque. I like that, too, for some weird reason that I can’t quite articulate.
The northern end of the Sandia Mountains was there also. I like it especially because you could still see snow in some of the shady spots up high.
So I guess what I’m getting at is that this stop was definitely worth my time.
