skinned elbow and a red dress

I love the contrast between a little girl’s fancy dress (sparkles! a brooch on a belt!) and the mannequin’s skinned up elbow.

It reminds me of earlier this year when my granddaughter had to leave the Cotillion early so she could get to…football practice.

hope + graffiti

Yep – another drizzly night in Scotland. According to my personal observation, almost ALL nights are drizzly, but to be fair, I was only there for a couple of weeks.

Blue hour, obviously. And I loved the way the sign gave off a warm glow, which was echoed by the light on the second floor of the building.

fountain cleaner

This guy had what looked like an endless task: he was scooping fall leaves out of the fountain. He was doing a good job and all, but it must have been a little disheartening when he stood up and stretched out his back and then saw how many more leaves were still on the trees.

devotee

On the morning of the first day of the Feast of Sant’Agata, I looked out my hotel window and saw a solitary devotee heading toward the cathedral.

It wasn’t long before the streets would be filled with people, many of them dressed in the traditional feast-day clothing like this gentleman. This moment, although I didn’t realize it then, was the only bit of quiet for a long time: the parades celebrating the Saint are loud and joyous.
