Joel Guzman, larger than life
I’ve written before about how the Patient Spouse and I are concert tourists, since many of the musicians we like don’t make it to Lubbock. So, here we were in Dallas to catch Paul Simon on his current Homeward Bound tour.
We happy that Joel Guzman was in the band (he’s played here in Lubbock before, so it’s not like we’re a music-free town or anything). But anyway, here’s Joel, large on the screen and much smaller down on the stage.

PS: How cool is this (from the linked article about J. Guzman)? “He also believes in encouraging the next generation. He teaches 20 3rd, 4th and 5th graders at the University of Texas Elementary School, a community engagement initiative with the goal of increasing the number of under-represented students in the college pipeline. The Hohner Accordion Company, for which Joel is an endorsee, provides the accordions. “We have a responsibility to continue our special Texas musical culture,” he said.”
PPS: Oh, yeah. I forgot to mention that Paul Simon guy. It was an amazing show…
Like tooled leather
Another shot from the Haas Moto Museum, this from the area called the Custom Shop. I really liked how the metal on this bike had the style of 1950s tooled leather.

So, that photographer is also the genius behind this amazing collection of motorcycles. The Patient Spouse and I spent an enjoyable couple of hours here the other day, making the $10/person entry fee the very best bargain in all of Dallas. There were two friendly employees who were more than happy to talk about the motorcycles as long as we wanted, but were also happy to leave us alone, too.
And I didn’t even LIKE motorcycles before I visited this place…

Side Business
Just across from the famous church, you’ll see Vigil’s Store, which seems to be doing a brisk business selling chile-related products. I bought a little bag of dried green chile powder. (The storekeeper told me she enjoyed watching me take a deep breath of the scent, with my eyes closed and a smile on my face.)
