it was as sad as it was predictable

It’s way it goes out here in these declining rural towns: eventually the cost of keeping a school district going hits the economics of ever-declining enrollments and before you know it, the schools have consolidated themselves into one county-wide district. And the former school buildings – no longer necessary – fall over or burn down or otherwise fade from relevance.

IT to the rescue

My knowledge of workplace safety protocols comes from officing across the hall from my agency’s risk manager for about eight years*. So there’s a chance I could be wrong in thinking that wheelchairs are not generally accepted as a safe substitute for ladder.
