Preparations at the Alamo

120315

Until I spent a few days at the Menger Hotel, with a room that faced the plaza in front of the Alamo, I really didn’t have any idea how many events take place there. There were several every day; set-up started early to accommodate the back-to-back scheduling.

Creepy Monkey

The things that people leave behind when they abandon a house always interest me. Broken furniture, dead television sets, piles of mail and bill and magazines, curtains are all pretty common.

Monkeys, though, are a bit more unusual.

And I feel like this creepy monkey is probably friends with this even creepier doll (which was in an abandoned building in a different part of the state).

This place, again

If it seems like you’ve seen this place before, you might be remembering this, or this, or even this.

Can you tell I’m fond of it?

What counts for topography

112815

We don’t have hills around here. There are jokes like “It’s so flat you can watch your dog run away for a week.” or “It’s so flat that if you look real hard you can see the back of your own head.”

So, instead of typical topography, we’ve got things like this asphalt plant to break up the horizon a little bit.
