hope + graffiti

Yep – another drizzly night in Scotland. According to my personal observation, almost ALL nights are drizzly, but to be fair, I was only there for a couple of weeks.

Blue hour, obviously. And I loved the way the sign gave off a warm glow, which was echoed by the light on the second floor of the building.

fountain cleaner

This guy had what looked like an endless task: he was scooping fall leaves out of the fountain. He was doing a good job and all, but it must have been a little disheartening when he stood up and stretched out his back and then saw how many more leaves were still on the trees.

magic mirrors

Honestly, this is one of my favorite photos. My friends and I were wandering around Palermo and happened to turn down a shaded street which had mirrors for sale. Of course we stopped to photograph them and I was lucky enough to get this shot, which both included and didn’t include a passing pedestrian. Getting the chance to get just this one photo would have made the trip worthwhile. (My needs are simple. Sometimes.)

tools of the trade

I can’t even begin to understand everything we saw during the Sant’Agata procession. Devotees in the streets purchase candles (yard long ones, not like little American birthday candles) which are handed up as offerings to the men on the candalore ((gilded wooden constructions). At various points during the three-day long procession, the parade stops while candles are removed in order to make way for more. At one of these stops, we stood behind a pair of priests and I had plenty of time to work on an image of this wooden rosary and its shadow.
