knotted curtains

I drove all the way from Lubbock to Hobbs so I could take this photo.

(I also ate some delicious posole for lunch and did a little shopping. Oh, I looked at the annular eclipse.)

melanie, twice

I have a tiny little side hustle as a kind-of regular speaker at a couple of civic groups here in town. I know – it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, either. But they keep asking me back. (Apparently the good speakers in town are already booked on Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon so it’s come down to me.)

A few days ago, I did a presentation on last year’s trip to Cuba and I took the opportunity of putting that together to edit a few images that I didn’t get to last year.

This diptych of the dancer name Melanie were in the new edits. And since I also have a daily post thing to do, I decided to utilize them here as well.

to be Cuban

Among many other things, being Cuban means to be prepared to wait in line. We often saw lines like this, and never quite knew what the people were standing in line for. At one line, one of our guides reported that the people were waiting for chicken, but that wasn’t even helpful. Did he mean live chickens? Or whole chickens? Or leftover chicken from a restaurant? Or was it a mis-translation?

(That’s just one of the things I encountered in Cuba that I don’t really understand.)

sky/light

In one way, this is photo of a sky light.

In another way, it’s a photo of a now-useless light fixture presiding over an abandoned parking lot at an out-of-business business.

super service

I mean – I can read the sign. I can understand the words.

But still, somehow, I remained unconvinced that any service provided at this location would rise to the level of “super.”
