the stillness of the day

By mid-morning, the place was full of swimmers and scuba divers, which is why I went early – it’s the only time all day to see mirror-smooth water.

As soon as I saw that sign, I knew I needed to make this photo. At first I thought it just absolutely needed to have the spires of St. Rosa Catholic Church rising behind it. And so that’s the way I framed the image and the way I made the first few shots.

But as soon as I saw the phone booth (a phone booth!), the spires became completely unimportant.

If you think it’s weird that I am always watchful for photogenic things in restrooms, maybe this colorful scene from a small train station will change your mind.

Or, maybe it’ll just be further evidence that I am weird.

It could be both of these things, actually, now that I think about it.
