spring snowstorm (impression)
None of my group anticipated that we’d see a snowstorm on our trip – it was April, after all.
However: we saw the kind of snow that Texans usually just dream about – fluffy, big flakes. We walked about a quarter of a mile back to our hotel as the snow fell; we were wet and cold when we got there, but none of us minded it a bit.

so vast as to be incomprehensible
I can’t really accurately describe just how big this rock formation is, and there’s nothing there to help with any scale. Except maybe if you know those boulders in bottom center of the frame are about the size of a house, it’ll help you get the idea.
The other way, of course, is to just go there for yourself. That’s probably a more accurate way to tell, plus then you can have a nice road trip and get some photographs while you’re at it.

beyond adobe lies the white place
Perhaps I’ve mentioned this previously: I have a crush on New Mexico. There’s just nowhere else that looks…this way.
My great thanks to my great friend David Marks for spending a whole day driving me around, showing me the things I didn’t know to look for. Like this place, a melting-away adobe church with a view of the famous White Place through an opening in the wall.

Goodness – where did the middle of that person go? It feels like seeing the inside of a magic trick.
(In addition to reading a book* while I waited for my flight, I also made a few photos. That first thing might surprise you, but the second one won’t. I’m pretty sure.)

*I read Three by Valérie Perrin, which met my criteria of being long – 550 pages – and being a paperback. I bought it at Magic City Books in Tulsa, which is an awesome bookstore that you ought to visit.
