snow white

I just can’t help myself: no matter how many abandoned businesses I spot in my travels, I still have to photograph them. I guess when I see a new one and DON’T want to get an photo of it, I’ll know the photography gig is over…

surveillance

I know you are aware that I have a thing for photographing things reflected in windows. I am charmed by the way the camera sees it differently than my eyes do. And I’m enchanted the way reflections layer themselves with the non-reflections, weaving all of it into something that seems *almost* real.

farm stand

It wasn’t a farm stand in the sense of “Oh, look! Fresh tomatoes!!” but at some point it looked like it had been. Now it was sort of an “I’m making a u-turn to photograph that old place.” situation.

corner store
Posted by Melinda Green Harvey
This used to be a thriving corner, right there at the intersection of Main and Railway Streets. It has, however, gotten over that, with nearly the entire block of buildings sitting vacant. It’s not anything I haven’t seen before in a thousand little towns, but it still made me sad to see the same scene repeated here.

evidence of destruction

I realize that a fire isn’t something to be happy about.
But what did make me happy was the way the shape of the fire shows on the wall and the way the flames left a heat map behind. (I am also exceedingly fond of that random concrete block on the top of the building.)
