gate-implied fence

I can’t really decide if the presence of the gate implies a fence or if it’s the other way around. Or if it even matters.

But besides that philosophical situation, here’s a photo that captures the entirety of the town of Inez, New Mexico.

I went inside every building in the entire town, which took a lot less time than it sounds like it would have. Of course, that’s largely because there is only one building in town and it has only one room. So all in all, I feel like I did a thorough building assessment.

amber

Every window in this old church is boarded up except for these three. The amber glass was unexpected and the way it looked against the blue of the sky is why this is in color.

I appreciate that the only three amber windows were close enough together to get in one shot.

Historical Note: the June 2022 Google Street View image has a sign over the front door of the church that says “The Redeemer El Redentor.” Otherwise, it still looks the same.

sacrament

A member of this church drove up while we were outside taking photos and asked if we would like to see the inside. She unlocked the door and then left  us alone for a while, a great kindness that I didn’t pay enough attention to at the time.

I like it that she was proud and wanted to show her meaningful place to three strangers. And her letting us experience the church for ourselves, without staying to see what we were doing, was the very best example of natural grace that I can even imagine. I am sure our thanks weren’t nearly enough.

you who are the stranger

This place is special in ways that I can’t explain. I hope that all of you have a place or two just like it.
