Chain and Block (with pigeon)

The big wooden door on this abandoned building had a lens-sized hole way down at the bottom. You know what I did.

I like making these kinds of photos, shooting blind through holes or dirty glass, because it’s a (usually good) surprise when I see the finished image. If I’d been doing this the “right” way, framing up the shot and all that stuff, I’m not sure I could have done better than the way the chain, the concrete block, and the pigeon arranged themselves.

Her anointed head

Maybe she sat in the sun on purpose, having checked the weather forecast and knowing the sunny days were about over. Or maybe she’d just been there so long that the sunlight caught up to her. But in any case, my photographer’s eye was caught by the way the sunlight anointed her head, making it the brightest thing in the room.

Succulent

It seems like a million years ago, but at the beginning of the month, I traveled to San Diego for a conference.

Framed
