the land of complicated signage

If you want in, here is a comprehensive list of steps to take to gain access. I like how it says “get me” without any clue as to who “me” might be.

I saw signs like this (and they were always hand written) in several store windows in Chickasha; it was almost like someone was pranking me. There was one sign that gave about eight complicated things to do to get to a framing shop. Another one listed the price and all the color options for something called Petticoat County Western Lingerie, with the added note that the price was firm. And one at an antique store tried very hard to convince shoppers that their Christmas platters would be the perfect gift.

Oh, and please notice my restraint in not even mentioning the missing apostrophe there where it says Mitzys.

window treatment

Helpful storage hint: if your closet or your linen closet is too full, consider storing your excess items right in the window. An added benefit is that the stuff that’s been stuffed in the window will help keep the cold winter drafts out of your house!

ira’s

If, after the long drive from Dalhart, Texas, to Nara Visa, New Mexico, you were hoping for a nice spot where you could have a drink and hang out with the locals – and you were even prepared to offer bonus points to a place that had a cool name like “Ira’s” – you are setting yourself up for ongoing thirst.

Ira’s is no more…

the case of the nightmare doll

The evidence keeps accumulating. And as it does, I become more and more convinced that “creepy dolls” is a redundant term.

(Also – and my shooting partner for the day will verify this – all the dolls in this window display were zip-tied in place. ZIP-TIED. What the hell is going on?)

a lady always wears pearls

Yes, ladies, pearls are the proper accessory. According to the Internet, they “create a visual impact that feels both timeless and trendy, making them the perfect accessory for everything from a cozy sweater to a sleek cocktail dress.” Additionally, they also make an impact if you are a naked mannequin in a shop window in Oklahoma. And, honestly, it’s hard to be more timeless and more trendy than that.
