Back in 2013, I posted this shot of the Marfa Book Company’s window. Since then, the store’s gotten a new space (but the same location!), and the backwards letters are still there. How about that!

Tessellation (missing)
Some of the buildings that used to house the motel are down to the slab now, but the floor tile in the bathrooms is still in place.
This is the floor from two different bathrooms, with a gap where the wall used to be. But it reminded me of M. C. Esher’s drawing of geese transforming themselves into fish, so in my mind*, that gap was the space where hexagons transformed into rectangles.

Street Rhythm
A side street in downtown Bryan seems plain, but if you look at it long enough the subtle complexities start to show up. Like the rhythm of the parking-space lines. The pair of downspouts bracketing the door. The paired up bench and trash can. The street light’s shadow. A bit of graffiti. A wavy bit of wire hanging from the wall. The line that crosses the street and heads straight to the door.
And so on.

Texas-sized Hats
This shop in downtown Brayn, Texas, had a very interesting mix of products. Women’s clothes, at price points ranging from $32 to $495. Spice rubs with silly names like “Chicken Shit” and “Good Shit” (Because those kinds of jokes never get old. Apparently.) Embroidered pillows with Bible verses. Handbags. Boots.
And an entire case of these Texas-sized hats.

Daylighting
It was just a day after Thanksgiving and Christmas lights were sprouting all over the place. These lights weren’t on, but the lucky angle of the sun made it look as though they were.
