Eventual destruction

There’s the kind of destruction that sweeps down from a cloud – a tornado or wind or hail or lightning. It’s here, then it’s gone.

And then there’s the kind that happens incrementally, so slowly that you don’t even notice it until it’s probably too late to do anything about it.

The town of Mineral Wells, Texas, was briefly famous for the healing properties of the local mineral water. Folks came to “take the water” and many of them stayed at the grand Baker Hotel.

The old place has seen better days.

The back of the Baker Hotel is just as run down as the front.

It used to be a glorious place, famous far and wide for the healing waters, but those days are long gone. Or, as the song “Mineral Wells” says:

There’d be no healing return to the past;
the fountain of youth had dried up.
