orange night

I used to have a job (and I thought it was a career, but I was wrong) at the local transit system. This orange building was just across the street from where I worked but I was so caught up in the excitement* of my job that I hardly noticed that it was there.

So maybe it was an apology to the place when I went downtown the other night and made some photos of it.

*When I say “excitement” I actually mean abject boredom and rampant sexism. So you know, practically the very same thing.

lamplight + leaves

One woman photographed at dusk, walking between the church and the cemetery. Also, sunset this time of year in Edinburgh is at 4:20 pm, in case you were wondering.

as memory fades

Talk about a bleak message on a tombstone…but memories do fade, no matter how much you think they won’t.

late afternoon traffic

Last year when I came back from Scotland, I wasn’t really doing very well – physically and mentally – while I was there, and during post-trip editing I felt a little bit like the quantity and quality of my images didn’t quite justify the trip.

But it’s a new year. I feel better. I’ve learned….well, I’ve learned a lot. And the photos from last year that I thought were too dumb to even look at suddenly seem a lot different.

sidestreet cowboy

That is ONE TALL COWBOY. And I’m pretty sure that, while he’s super polite and takes his hat off when he meets a lady and says “howdy” and all that, he also isn’t going to be too inclined to take any shit off of anyone.
