home run celebration

A home run was a very exciting event for these two fans!

Full disclosure: once the hecklers behind us left, the game was much less interesting and we left early. And that’s why we missed the 9-run seventh inning, and why we missed the eventual 20-16 win over TCU.

when we thought the rain would stop

What we thought would be an enjoyable evening watching the Amarillo Sod Poodles* playing baseball didn’t really pan out all that well. There was a one-hour rain delay before the game even started and then, in a show of unfounded optimism, the crew pulled away the tarp and the game started. By the third inning we were as drenched as we wanted to be and left; the rain never let up and the game was called in the sixth inning.

But it was good while it lasted.

*Yes. That is the actual name. It’s a slang term for prairie dogs.

ballgame

During my trip to Chicago, I was working on an assignment for an online photography class on narrow depth of field. Because I was sort of obsessive about looking for photos to submit for the image review, and because I had already thought about the possibilities at a Cubs game, I was ready when the gentleman a few rows ahead of me held his phone up to get a photo of the action. Without that assignment in my head, I probably wouldn’t have even noticed what he was doing. It was nice of him to help me with my assignment, don’t you think?

This is saddest baseball field that I’ve ever seen.

Outside of Out Field

I guess I never had this particular view of a baseball field before…
