Pancakes came with instructions

The side of plate-sized pancakes was delivered by the home-town waitress, who also dropped some knowledge about the correct (and tidy) way to eat them.

She said, “Cut a hole in the middle, hon, and pour your syrup right there. That’ll keep it from runnin’ off the plate into your lap.”

It seemed like valuable information, and I am more than happy to pass it along to you.

Whatever this was, it didn’t end well

A detail of some hulking ruins I encountered in Eureka Springs – I’m not sure what the owners intended, but I am sure it wasn’t this sad end.

Interim Review

When I was a little kid, sometimes my dad would take me to his office. It seemed so exotic, with the private offices up front and a big room full of drafting tables in back. Everything seemed exotic to me – racks of rubber stamps, t-squares, the blueline machine, or the black devices that were used to put sharp points on drafting pencils. My favorite things though, were the electric erasers, with mysterious little motors that would turn on when you turned the eraser over.

I hadn’t thought about that in a long time. But the other morning when I had some time on my hands and a new close-up lens on my camera, I wandered around the Patient Spouse’s architectural office and it all came back to me.

Creatures in the night

A couple of weeks after I made this shot, my friend with parking-garage access helped me get this photo. The tower is gone by now, but I suppose that heavy-construction equipment still prowls the site, getting things all level for whatever happens next…
