lunch rush

This place had a rack where the locals left their personal coffee cups for quick access to their morning caffeine. For some reason, that made me feel a little wistful, like somehow I was missing out by not having a regular coffee place.

It’s weird how things hit places you don’t even know exist…

do what, now?

I swear, for the longest time I thought this said “Young Sins.”

Perhaps a different, more legible, font would have been a strong decision.

those old windows

I’m a sucker for those tiny little diamond-shaped windows.

In case you were wondering, this church dates to the late 13th century and has both a resident organist AND a “band of bell ringers.” And that’s not all! The last village band in Worcestershire, the Bretforton Silver Band, has strong ties to the church and provides music for special services.

night windows

I guess I ought to have wished for a room with a more traditionally scenic view – maybe the river or downtown or whatever. But on the other hand: while this isn’t “scenic” in the traditional sense, I was very fond of the three lighted windows in an otherwise dark building across the street.

NOLA, in the spring

I went to grad school in New Orleans. Trust me on this: the summers are very hot, very humid. Like so humid you can’t even breathe. Like so hot you can’t even move.

As a career-having person, it turns out that I have a lot of conferences in New Orleans, and most of them are in the spring. (See previous paragraph for an explanation.)

Somehow, though, spring in New Orleans seduces me almost every time I’m there. The colors are lovely. The food is delightful. The air feels soft. And Every. Single. Time. I think, “It wouldn’t be so bad to live here.”

Except, you know, not.
