one way or another

To be honest, these are two different businesses. But they are on the same block in downtown Paducah and it amused me to make them into a diptych – especially diptych that completely evaded answering the open-or-closed question.

tell your mom the movie’s out at 9:30

I loved it that a small town still had a movie theater.

But mostly I loved the sign in the window announcing what time the movie lets out. Don’t even THINK about telling your mom the movie will be done at 10:00 so you’ve got an extra half hour to kill before she comes to pick you up. Nope. The movie proprietor is on to your bullshit and ISN’T HAVING IT any more.

terrestrial reception

I like Mason. It’s a comfortable town, an easy drive from Lubbock. The town square is interesting, especially at night when light retreats into the corners and a plywood-covered window becomes profound.

light my way so i get this right

Maybe my quick trip out of town the other day seemed silly, or selfish, or just plain confusing. I’m not saying it wasn’t any of those things, but on the other hand, it sort of feels like I went all that way to see this pink-haired mannequin in a store window…and it was worth the drive.

links and bonding

This hand holds a lot of stories. I don’t know what they are, but I am confident of my assessment.

(I am also confident of using a long-ish lens to isolate a stranger’s hand, if that is what the situation calls for.)
