wire hangers
People think they know what the French Quarter looks like – and, mostly they are right. It does indeed have a lot of wrought-iron balconies and bars and street performers and booze.
But, because it is a neighborhood where actual, real people live, it’s also got things like dry cleaners. And wire coat hangers.

If you’ve been around my work for more than say 10 to 13 minutes, you know that I photograph a lot of abandoned places. Rarely do I get bad vibes at a location…but this place (the place in the trees, I mean – not the mailboxes) felt very creepy to me. It was almost to the level that I call Murder House. And that’s why there’s just the one photo – sticking around wasn’t a thing I thought I needed to do. You know, in case it WAS a Murder House.

This place used to be a very nice fabric store. It’s the same store where my mom and I found the fabric for my wedding dress, which she sewed from a Vogue pattern (because I was fancy like that and because she was an excellent seamstress). I love it that time has folded over on itself: now it’s a wedding dress store.
