Last year I attended a conference in New Orleans; after a day or two all the people and noise and commotion started to get the better of me. And then I found sanctuary in the far end of the convention center.

Kind of like a mural
The view from my hotel room in Chicago offered a view of the office building across the street; it was like a mural, only one that changed from minute to minute. If my trip had been a couple of days longer, I would have started to figure out whose schedule demanded late hours at the office.

Grotto
On my only other visit to Shafter, the church door was unlocked and I was able to get some photos inside. I didn’t realize how much I was looking forward to shooting inside there again, in muted light this time, until I discovered the door I’d gone in before was locked. And so were all the others. It was a disappointment.
But at least I got to see this, on the back of the church.

A narrow view
On our first day in England we stopped in to look at Arundel Castle. And to look at what was behind the narrow leaded-glass windows.

The more formal approach
While I am drawn to things that are falling apart or are otherwise not symmetrical, sometimes a formal arrangement does catch my attention. That’s what happened here, with the steps and the brick and the pattern on the doors and the shadows, all lining themselves up perfectly.
