empty pews

As it turns out, I have spent a lot of time this summer on the road, wandering around and taking photos.

This is not a complaint, because wandering around and taking photos is just about the most enjoyable thing I can imagine doing. And I know I am fortunate that it works out for me.

We found an interesting back road the other day that turned out to be an excellent option: I found this place.

shady

Oh, yes – here I go again, shooting photos through dusty windows into buildings full of random discards. Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of lamps and most of them are just as nice as the ones you can see here. If you get my drift.

tulle + stilts

If you’ve ever seen me walk, you know that I not generally all that graceful or coordinated. I would have benefitted from having gone to dance lessons as a kid. Probably.

So it was with great awe that I saw a person on stilts, walking on a brick street right in front of a moving vehicle. And while all that was going on, she was smiling and waving to the crowd.

in the weeds

You probably already know that if there’s a cemetery around I will definitely go and see what I can find. And here in Chimayó, the cemetery is bordered by two streets, one cliff, and a little farmyard that had a cow and a rooster and maybe a goat or two. And this weather-worn statue was so close enough to the cow that they could have had a conversation.

window saint

This adobe house sits just across the narrow dirt street from the town’s famous church. It seems like it’s close enough to perhaps get by without a window-saint, but the residents evidently felt otherwise.
