one way or another

To be honest, these are two different businesses. But they are on the same block in downtown Paducah and it amused me to make them into a diptych – especially diptych that completely evaded answering the open-or-closed question.

an accidental diptych

I meant for this to be just an image of that statue, who looked like she was holding that light over her head (and, also, possibly, holding up the entire ceiling).

But, as the Photography Gods sometimes dictate, that actual thing that needed to be photographed was the way reflection of the other side of the street turned this into a diptych. As a bonus, the way the warm and cool lights play off each other is fun to look at.

the young horseman: a diptych

Let’s just go ahead and assume that I was smart enough to plan this in advance – that I on purpose got two completely different shots of this young man and that I intended all along to create a diptych to show him on horseback and hanging out with his friend.

(But you know that all of this is just a coincidence and I only realized the possibilities after I got home and was editing and realized it was in fact the same kid twice.)

art, in progress

Lubbock-based artist Kathryn Thomas did a demonstration earlier this month during the First Friday Art Trail. It was fascinating to watch this piece unfold during the evening. And there’s a chance that I *may* have made a nuisance of myself, as I was popping in and out to photograph her at work.

Different Years: a diptych

If you’ve been following along the last couple of days, you know that my collaborator suggested randomly pairing images from the same date but different years just to see what sort of diptych might emerge.

And here’s what I got when I selected One Day | One Image posts from October 17 in 2020 and 2013.

Oddly enough, this pairing works, I think – the peaks of the roof of the church building are echoed in the dancers’ arms.
